The story of Honey Grandpa

Memaw, Ma-Ma, Nana, Grammy, Gamma, Papaw, Pa-Pa, Grandad, what was the special name you had for your grandparents?  Grandma Carr, Grammy aka Grams, and Hoo-Hoo were the names we had for my grandparents.  (My paternal grandfather died before I was born.)  Hoo-Hoo was my maternal Grandpa.  A name my oldest cousin gave him.  Reason unknown.  I think maybe something to do with playing peak-a-boo with her....possibly??  My old mind escapes me.

When my parents found out they were going to be grandparents, they put a lot of thought into the names they wanted.  Mom liked Gamma.  She had heard it on the show ER.  It was Noah Wyle character's grandmother.  Gamma soon turned into Gammy by Miss Kylie when she was younger.  She likes the ie/y sound apparently at the end of our names because I am Meggie.  Meggggggieeeeee to be exact.

Dad on the other hand, we just couldn't find a name that he liked.  Gampy.  Grumpy.  Nothing was striking him.  So he just stuck with Grandpa.  Until he became Honey Grandpa.  Said more like Honey Granpa in a little northern accent.  Let me tell you how it came to be.

One morning, little Katie (almost 2 years at this point) was going to daycare with Gammy.  They were in the car backing out of the driveway.  Gammy apparently at some point had said, "Goodbye Honey" to Grandpa.  As they pulled away, Katie started saying, "Bye Honey Grandpa.  Bye Honey Grandpa."  And all the way to daycare she kept saying, "Bye Honey Grandpa."  And so Honey Grandpa just stuck.  Katie is obsessed with Honey Grandpa.  What is he doing, where did he go, when will he back........she will carry on until he is back in her eyesight.  We were at the county fair this summer and Honey Grandpa left early.  An hour later, she kept asking where Honey Grandpa was.  (I don't think he said a proper goodbye to her.)  I assured her he was safe and sound at home taking care of the puppy dogs.  At least 4-5 times.  She is just the cutest thing ever.  Now if you talk to her on the phone or Facetime, she wants to know where you are.  "Are you at home, Meggie?"  "Are you at your house, Gammy?"  She will be 3 in November.  She is something else.

Honey Grandpa just celebrated his birthday.  Here is my post from Facebook:

Happy 73rd birthday, Daddio! (He isn't allowed to have FB so he will never know I revealed his age.) I spend 95% of my time mad at him because we are the same stubborn person. But I love him to pieces anyway. My favorite things about him is he always loves me no matter what and making us all laugh. Now go have a martini in his honor. He would really want you to.

Honey Grandpa is always up for watching a little TV.  Peppa Pig, Sofia the First.
I told you we should have gone with Grumpy.  Please note bowl of jelly beans and dog paw.
Taken just this week at Gammy/Honey Grandpa sleepover.  Apparently she turned 8 years old overnight.
Another post all about my Daddio.

High Five for Friday: 5 things I've been up to

Let me just blow all the dust off this old thing!  My goodness!  It has been since January!  Let me see if I remember how to do this...........

1.  Let's start where I left off.  I don't think I gave you a proper recap of our holidays.  Is it too late for that?  Let's pretend it just Christmas in July.  Any excuse for me to show off my nieces.
We will start left and work our way clockwise.  My beautiful tree.  The girls with Santa.  Katie being cute.  Kylie going to Christmas tea.  Me and Kylie making Christmas cookies.  Gammy, me, Aunt Sally, and Kylie all at LS Ayres Christmas tea.
Kylie opening gifts.  She is an ole pro.  Please notice the grumpy old man in the background, not paying attention, and on his phone.
The whole family.  Don't mind the 2 year old with no pants.  Life is hard when you are 2.  And so is potty training.
I turned 26 (plus or minus 10 years.)  I got to spend it with my 2 favorite girls.  I was treated to a mani and a pedi as well as getting my hair done.  The most perfect day.  #spoiled

I hope this elf returns next year.  She puts on quite the show when she should be in bed.
2.  Somewhere in the midst of the cold hard winter, I discovered Snapchat.  Totally addicting app.  My user name is naptowndiva79 if you want to follow along.

Somewhere on a beach.
There will always be lots of cats on my snap.
Maybe even one playing a saxophone.
Always a family affair.
And filters that make me look 26.

3.  On March 15, in the wee small hours of the morning, my baby nephew Drew was born.  He will get his own blog post very soon.  But here is a sneak peek at his cuteness.
Happy Birthday, Drew Alan!

Daddy and the big sisters

Me and Baby Drew
We think we will keep him because obviously he fits right in.
Poor thing doesn't have a chance against these two.

Drew and Mommy saying goodbye to Gammy at daycare.
This is from earlier this week in his R2D2 outfit.  Got to start them young on Star Wars.
4.  The month of March was extremely busy for our family.  Kylie had a birthday, Drew was born, a wedding anniversary, and of course Easter.

This one turned 6 on March 12.  No big deal......
On March 27 these lovebirds celebrated 45 years of marriage.
We taught Katie how to dye Easter eggs.  She enjoyed drinking it most of all.
Our finished eggies.
At the Easter buffet
It is not a holiday unless someone dresses alike.
5.  I will finish this blog post up with some random pictures.

I decided to become an adult and buy new furniture.

One of my dearest friends got married.  We have known each other since we were in 8th grade.
At dinner.  It was such an honor to spend the day with her.

Girls just wanna have fun!
2 cool chicks
I went to a comedy club and got to meet my favorite ginger, Matt Bellassi.  We drank lots of wine and laughed until our sides hurt.
Basically my most favorite picture of all time.  All that swag in one pic.  Gymnastics all the way!
Memorial Day fun!

Baby Drew

Kylie
I bought a blow up pool for the girls and secretly me, too.  We had a good time.

Daddy and Drew

L:  First day of kindergarten.  R:  Last day of kindergarten.  I am going to go cry now.
That concludes my tour.  I hope you enjoyed it.  I enjoyed reliving those moments.  I have been sick with a nasty cold, bronchitis, allergies since Memorial Day.  My life hasn't been too eventful in the last month except for a camping trip.  I will share that with you soon.  I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

The World According to a 5 Year Old

Today I would like to give you a little glimpse into life as a 5 year old.  The struggle is real.  Adults are always saying no.  Always making you eat weird food and going to bed early.  #roughlife  Here are some fun, absolutely true quotes and statements about my K#1.

1.  "I know.  I already knew that.  I know."  Ok gotcha!  I use to say the same thing to my Mom.  I understand now why she got annoyed.
So much sass in this picture.
 2.  "You get what you get, and you don't throw a fit."  I'm pretty sure she said this to Grandpa when he was whining about his dinner.

These two are on the exact same age level.  Just saying!!!!  72 and 5 are a lot alike!

3.  "Just tell me what you are whispering about?  What does that spell?  Just tell me!"  Soon she will know how to spell and we won't be able to talk about her while she is in the room.  Whenever she asks us, I try and make up some outrageous story.  She typically buys it.  Or I just change the subject.

Innocent me?  Christmas 2014
 4.  "I don't have to go potty."  5 minutes later.  "I have to go potty."

I would never do that!!!  LIES!
5.  "The cold never bothered me anyway."  Okay Elsa from the movie Frozen.  But you still have to wear wear your coat outside.

Can you please buy this for me?
 6.  "Meggie I just love you.  Please move closer so I can see you everyday."  Ok.  No problem as I melted into a puddle right then and there.

She is always up for an adventure.
7.  "I know.  I know.  I know."  Whoops did I already mention that one?  I've heard this one a lot.

Lies!  All lies!
8.  If you promise me something, I will not let you forget.  Trust me.  I'll bring it up every chance I get.  "Meggie can we please play with this?  You promised!"

From Easter this year.

9.  Sometimes little white lies happen.  I swear!  See #4.

Not from this sweet, innocent girl!
10.  You are at a restaurant.  Everyone's food has arrived.  "I have to go potty."  Every. Single. Time.  A fight breaks out at the table because no one wants to take her.

She is a sweet angel.  Always standing up to Grandpa for me.  Girlfriend has my back.

Life is always a fun time when you are 5.  No responsibilities.  Naps are a thing of the past.  You are the height of your game.  But I beg you to stop growing up!  Because I swear it went from this:
